If you have watched Simon Sinek’s excellent TED talk on inspirational leadership, this is a concept you will be familiar with but perhaps over the last few months, something that has been sadly lacking on the political stage here in the UK. In the run up to, and post the Brexit vote, the leaders of each campaign were largely anything but inspirational. And then just when we needed it most, those uninspirational leaders all either resigned, disappeared from view or found themselves in votes of no confidence. This was closely followed by the debacle of the lack of leadership displayed at the top of BHS.
Having felt the effects of this lack of overt leadership (inspirational or otherwise), perhaps now is the time for us to stand up and be counted and hold our leaders to a higher account with greater expectations that they at least aspire to inspire.
